Common Buckeye. This
worn and tattered butterfly was among the last I saw for the season.
We'd had frosts by this point at the end of October. I was still
releasing Monarchs and keenly aware that pickin's were slim for nectar
sources. This butterfly showed the battle scars of an adventurous
lifetime and was all the more beautiful for them. Central Indiana - October 29, 2016
