Common Buckeye

Common Buckeye. This worn and tattered butterfly was among the last I saw for the season.  We'd had frosts by this point at the end of October.  I was still releasing Monarchs and keenly aware that pickin's were slim for nectar sources.  This butterfly showed the battle scars of an adventurous lifetime and was all the more beautiful for them.
